PENSION PERSPECTIVES
MESSAGE FROM THE
General Manager
I would like to share several important updates
regarding your pension system, including
benefit adjustments, health subsidies, and
recent changes to LAFPP membership.
Following the approval of Measure FF by Los
Angeles voters on November 5, 2024, the City
Charter was amended to allow sworn peace
officers employed on or as of January 12,
2025, by the Harbor, Airports, Police, and
Recreation
and
Parks
Departments
to
voluntarily transfer from the Los Angeles City Employees’ Retirement System
(LACERS) to LAFPP Tier 6. The transfer window closed on January 9, 2026,
and a total of 314 employees elected to join LAFPP. This includes 4 Port
Police, 30 Park Rangers, 41 LAPD Officers, and 239 Airport Police. We are
pleased to welcome these new members to LAFPP.
On April 2, 2026, the Board approved a 2.9% Cost-of-Living Adjustment
(COLA). Eligible pensioners and DROP participants will see this increase
reflected in their July 31, 2026, pension payment. This adjustment helps
ensure your pension continues to keep pace with inflation and supports your
purchasing power throughout retirement.
In addition, the Non‑Medicare Retiree Health Subsidy will rise by 5.2%,
increasing the maximum monthly amount to $2,523.00. This enhancement
helps offset healthcare costs for retired members and their covered
dependents and underscores our ongoing commitment to your health and
well‑being.
Finally, our 2025 Annual Report is now available at lafpp.lacity.gov. The report
provides a comprehensive look at the plan’s financial performance, actuarial
data, statistical information, and key provisions. I encourage you to review it
to stay informed about the work being done to protect and strengthen your
pension.
Thank you for your service and for your continued trust in the Fire & Police
Pension system. Should you have any questions or comments, please contact
us at (213) 279-3000 or via email at [email protected].
